SUNDAY SERVICE TIMES: Sunday school, 9:45 am. Worship service, 11:00.
Colesville Baptist Church is a Bible-teaching congregation serving the Lord near the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring, MD. We are a multi-ethnic church committed to proclaiming the Gospel, growing as disciples, and sharing the love and saving power of Jesus Christ with the world around us. Join us for Sunday School (all ages), Sunday worship, or one of our many weekly groups or Bible Studies.
We get visitors regularly here at Colesville Baptist Church, and we know visitors have questions they wish they knew ahead of time. So, we’re taking the opportunity here to answer a few:
1. Where do I park? In the back of the building. Just come into the parking lot entrance, head back, and to your left. The entrances to the building are located in the back. There are outside stairs leading to a side door, which is a common entrance. More often, however, people enter through the ground-level back entrance and head to the elevator. Yes, we have an elevator—if you go through the doors on the bottom level and head straight back and through.
2. Where do I go? Sunday Service means you’re headed towards the Sanctuary (2nd floor, south side of the building—where music is probably playing). “Community Bible Study” on Wednesday nights or “Late Morning Study” on Tuesdays has you heading towards the Fellowship Hall (2nd floor, north side of the building). Before service, you can get your coffee, juice, donut, etc., in the Son-Shine Cafe next to the Sanctuary. Sunday Schools (9:45 am) are all located on the 1st floor.
3. Will my child be safe? We have Sunday School at 9:45 am and Kids Church that happens during our Sunday 11 am service. Kids Church is located on the first floor (classrooms), below the sanctuary (the kids will walk down together with their teachers form the Sanctuary about 11:15 am). All Kids Church teachers are background-checked. Mrs. Hannah Groom (lead) is a professional educator who works with children daily.
4. Will anyone talk to me? No. Just kidding! People are friendly around here, and you’ll surely receive a warm greeting. You will not be singled out during any service or asked to raise your hand or anything like that. We don’t have an official “greeting time” either, but if you want to meet people, come a little early and stay a little longer after service.
5. What is expected of me? We don’t take up an offering. There is, instead, an offering box in the back where anyone can voluntarily leave tithes and offerings. There is no dress code. However, whether casual or formal, everyone does dress modestly.
6. What can I expect? During Sunday Service, expect to hear worship music, a few church announcements, and a time of teaching/preaching by Dr. Groom. During Tuesday’s Late Morning Study and Wednesday night’s Community Bible Study, expect a time of interactive teaching with Dr. Groom as the group studies verse-by-verse through a book in the Bible. Questions and comments are always a part of the interaction and are encouraged but never required. Sunday service is about one hour long (11 am to 12 noon), and Wednesday’s (“Community”) Study is just under an hour (7:15 pm to 8:00 pm-ish). “Late Morning Study” on Tuesdays includes hymn singing and a light meal. It begins at 10:00 am and is over by noon.
